About

Meet Me

Welcome, and thank you for being here.

I'm Umm Sakinah, the person behind The Safe Inner Place. This page shares a little of who I am and what I bring to this space — but what matters more than my own story is whether something here helps you, soothes you, or makes you feel a little less alone.

A little about my background

I am currently pursuing a BSc in Psychology, and I have spent the past several years teaching learners of all ages — children, teenagers, and adults. Alongside this, I have built up training in mental wellbeing, Islamic education, and language instruction. These are the credentials I bring to this work:

Mental health & counselling

  • CBT Certificate
  • Counselling Certificate
  • Mental Health First Aid Training
  • General Psychiatric Management for Borderline Personality Disorder — Harvard Medical School (online course)

Islamic education

  • A-Levels in Islamic Studies (2023 – 2025)
  • Arabic studies (2024 – 2025)

Teaching & language

  • TEFL / TESOL certified
  • IELTS verified English proficiency

What I am — and what I am not

I want to be very honest with you. I am not a clinical psychologist or therapist. I do not diagnose. The support I offer is non-clinical — it is meant to walk alongside you, not replace professional care. When something is beyond my scope, I will gently encourage you to speak with a qualified professional, and I will do my best to point you somewhere safe.

Why this space exists

I built The Safe Inner Place for Muslim women, especially those who feel unfamiliar with the language of mental health — those who may have been raised in homes or communities where these conversations rarely happened, where emotional struggles were often carried in silence.

But this space isn't only for Muslim women. It is also for anyone — sister, brother, parent, friend — who wants to learn, to understand emotional wellbeing, or to support someone they love.

I am currently developing written resources and a mental health book that brings together what I am learning and what I hope will help others. Everything I share here is offered with sincerity, and with the hope that, alhamdulillah, it lightens — even a little — what someone is carrying.

May this space be of benefit. May it find you gently.
